About Acupuncture
What is Acupuncture?
Put simply, it is the insertion of very fine needles into acupuncture points on the body. The purpose of this stimulation is to influence physiological, emotional and psychological functions in the body and mind. Chinese medicine has always acknowledged that the mind and body are interrelated.
What are Meridians and Acupuncture Points?
Meridians are energetic pathways that run through the body. Acupuncture points are specific locations where the Meridians come to the surface of the skin, and are easily accessible by “needling.” Since energy constantly flows up and down these pathways, the connections between them ensures that there is an even circulation of qi. A person’s health is influenced by the flow of qi in their body. If that flow is insufficient, unbalanced or interrupted, illness may occur. Acupuncture is said to restore the balance.
What is Traditional Chinese Medicine and How Does it Work?
All of the practitioners at Acupuncture in the Cove practice the art of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Chinese medicine encompasses the use of Acupuncture but also includes other modalities such as TuiNa (medical massage) Cupping, Moxabustion, Qigong (energy work) and Herbal Therapy.
After evaluating your individual state of energy, your practitioner will determine what techniques are most appropriate for you. The use of these various techniques will work to restore your body’s natural blood and energy flow, or Qi (pronounced CHEE) to a balanced state within your body.
